Holy Trinity Community Church will be seeking a Special Exception from the Board of Zoning Appeals for an expansion of their worship areas. There is a community meeting tonight at 6:30 at the church 6727 Charlotte Pike. The Board of Zoning Appeals will hear the case on June 7th. I have uploaded the site plan to Google Doc's and you can look at it here.
If you cannot make the meeting here is the text of an email I recieved from the church describing their plans. Let me know if you have any questions.
Councilmember Evans,
Pastor Cindy asked me to send you our proposed Site Plan. It is attached. The "Phase 1 Addition & Multiministry Worship Center" are the proposed expansions. The "Phase 1 Addition" includes a small welcome center area & restrooms. Other parts of the plan include the additional parking at the side of the property near West Hillwood, a widened driveway off of Charlotte Pike (the main entrance/exit) and drop off area, expanded landscaping features throughout the property, paving & striping the current gravel parking lot, and adding a stormwater detention fixture at the back of the property (determined as ideal location for drainage management per survey conducted in 2011). The existing church building & house currently on the property will remain. The house is used for our church offices.
As background for why we are proposing this expansion... Holy Trinity was founded in 1996 and has worshiped in West Nashville since 1999. Holy Trinity bought the current property in 2006, cleaned it up, and moved in with about 100 members. Since then, we have grown to a membership of over 300. Holy Trinity loves the West Nashville area and has been involved with West Nashville's interfaith, interdenominational, and community ministries since 1999. The current sanctuary seats a maximum of 150 people, and educational/ministry space is limited. We now have 3 worship services each Sunday and transition the remaining limited space several times each Sunday to provide various children, youth, & adult ministries. Our desire is to expand our current space as indicated on the attached site plan to allow for up to 400 individuals in one worship service. This would also free up our current sanctuary space to provide more elbow room for children, youth, & adult ministries. We are a unique and diverse congregation that sees itself as a community church where people worship, fellowship, and work together for the betterment of all. We do not see ourselves as growing into a "mega-church." Our goal is simply to provide authentic ministry in and for our community. If the congregation were to grow beyond what the proposed sanctuary implies, our mission would then be to start other community churches with our "DNA" as needed in other parts of Nashville and surrounding areas - and not to seek to build larger and larger sanctuaries on the current property.
Please let me know if you have any questions are feedback. If you would like to visit us one Sunday to get a better sense of our church family, you are very welcome to do so. Our Sunday Worship Services occur at 8:55, 10:15, and 11:35AM. Thank you for your time and interest in reviewing these plans. We look forward to working with you and our neighbors as we continue to strengthen our community.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Austin
